The DS-75 Sports Ball. A Report from Jaswinder Singh Bull

The DSOBS Sports dinner was christened the DS-75 Sports Ball. This was a kick start and countdown for our gala DS-75 celebrations later this year. The Maharaja Gaekwad of Baroda once again threw open his sprawling residence at Safdarjung Lane for this event. Our old masters (not teachers) and senior OB's were our esteemed VVIP's for the evening. Many of them symbolically lit "diyas" (our flickering lamp of knowledge). We could not think of a better way to show our love, gratitude and respect to the masters as they played a pivotal role in the lives of a lot many boys. We were also celebrating "Earth Hour" and symbolically dimmed the lights to conform as a responsible society. Jaipur house won the Inter House Hockey and Tata won the Inter House Cricket trophies. Deepak Castelino and his band rolled out some popular numbers. He even edited some of the songs to add some humour and nostalgia for the evening. Too much nostalgia is not good as very soon we had many Dosco's pretending to be in the school choir croaking away with guts and without glory. The food was the largest spread ever- Rajnish Behl and Embassy Caterers put up an amazing show. Doscos known to always complain could not do so this time. Rajnish knows how to handle them their wives and their stomachs. No DSOBS event can ever be a success without the alcohol. Jatin Bob and Dewars put up an amazing show. The Dosco's ran out of steam for a change but the Booze and Jatin Bob stuck to their own. The presence of "Nike" at the event added a lot of excitement. Nike has attached themselves with an institution in India for the first time. Nike is specially making select memorabilia for the Doon School. The Dosco's in hordes were seen were ordering shoes and other gear. Harpal Singh's "Nanhi Chaa Foundation" distributed saplings of trees and educated the gathering on our environment and importance of girl child. All is well that ends well. The evening carried on to the wee hours of the 4 in the morning. It was the best DSOBS attended event till date.

DSOBS Hockey Match: A Report from Kunal Sharma

The Doon School Old Boys played a hockey match against the current school hockey team on March 9. The game was played on the Main Field and provided members of the old boys team to relive their glory days from years past! The game was a hard fought affair with the school team pulling out a narrow 1-0 win over the visiting old boys. The superior fitness and teamwork of the school team players enabled them to dictate a larger section of the game, but determined play on the part of the old boys with superb goal-keeping along with dogged defending and opportunistic counterattacks meant that the final result of the game was by no means a foregone conclusion prior to the final whistle being blown. The old boys team included a mix of experience and youth, with Sheel Sharma, Moin Qureshi, Nalin Khanna and Vimalendu Verma proving that their stick skills were still intact. Abhishek Singhi made some outstanding saves in goal to keep the score close, while Shivendra Singh in the backline and Gautam Aggarwal in the midfield both played stellar games. The old boys came close to equalizing the score on a couple of occasions but the final touch deserted them and the needed goal never materialized. In the end it was a good win for the school team and a memorable afternoon spent on the main field for the old boys!

MUSICIANS UNITED (DS 75): Calling all Doscos with musical talents

All of us will be getting together to celebrate 75 years of our school this October. For all of us, this will be a nostalgic walk, reliving the moments and friendships that are an integral part of our lives today. It is in thinking about this, that the following idea was born.

The Doon School Old Boys’ Society initiated the idea of releasing an audio CD of ORIGINAL song, where every aspect of its production will be managed by students and ex students of the Doon School (from recording musicians, to the musicians themselves, from producing the tracks to mixing and mastering them, and finally the artwork and printing of the CDs). We aim at using this project to bring together Doscos from every age group and batch, to come together and create something beautiful, not only for the school but also for the world around - ORIGINAL music that can be played at any occasion. The CD will have an inlay inside the pack giving credits to every Dosco who has been involved in this project. It would be heartening to see, for example, the reaction of someone from the batch of 73, who would read in the credits, the name of a flute player from the same batch who has contributed his musical talents in the making of this CD.

The CD in itself is a unique concept for DS-75, but it is the creativity, synergy and involvement of many Doscos from all batches, taking the initiative to create this CD, which will make this venture special. We request ANYONE who is interested in being involved in this project to contact amitdosco@gmail.com with a Cc: to rahulkohli@yahoo.com The following is a list of people that we do need:
  1. Musicians (singers, instrumentalists, percussionists, composers, lyricists)
  2. Mixing engineers
  3. Recording studio engineers
  4. Electronic musicians
  5. Mastering engineers
  6. Designers to create artwork for album cover and inlay
  7. Anyone owning a printing workshop to print the covers and labels of the CD and take care of its packaging.
ANYONE else apart from the people required in this list, who think they can contribute to this project in any way, is welcome to contact us on the same email.
